He is a really good professor who is really enthusiastic and makes the class interesting. His structure for his class is excellent. He has notes that you print out and bring to class and fill in that day. The best way to cap professor Schurle in one word is Human. He knows what were going though and aims to make sure we understand the material and not get tripped up on difficult language associated with the class. I would definitely take a class with him again. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
After numerous math courses I finally come across someone who can teach math. Dr. Schurle is by far the best lecturer I have ever had, he is upbeat and keeps everyones attention and really explains all the material. I walk out of class feeling as though I can solve any problem in the book. His homework is very decent amount not too many problems but enough to make sure you understand it. He makes his test questions from homework like problems. He has taught numerous engineers in his years of teaching and it shows... if you are an engineer you cannot miss out taking Dr. Schurle.breakdown:Tests - not easy but not too hard if you pay attention, do the homework and study you will be able to get for sure a B and should be able to get an A, 3 of them and a final main % of grade is the final counts twice all the tests once and he drops one.HW - due every wednesday at the beginning of class not too much but not too littlelectures - very entertaining and worth attending as he defines and explains concepts very well (no attendance) uses dotcam and walks around and interacts with the class |

1. Old exams are 85-90% similar to the exams you get in class.n2. Very little homework, about 15-25 problems every week.n3. Clear and to the point with his lecturen4. I have read that he's not very lenient with grading but that's not true. He was lenient when it comes to grading test. His TA, however, was not lenient. n5. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. You never know when he gives out bonus points that will be added to your overall average, a total of 4 points. He will give out these very easy questions that require almost no thinking, if you're there and get those questions right, then you will get the points.n6. Very laid back and easy going.n |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Specifics: 3 in-class exams and a final worth 2 exams (3x22.5%, 1 drop), homework (10%, drops approximately 5 homeworks ) Dr. Schurle is a quirky man that knows his matrices. He usually speaks with energy and is easy to communicate with. His teaching is very straight to the point and his lectures are easy to follow and make you fill in notes as he teaches (so its not as easy to fall asleep). You can easily get away with not going to his lectures, but Schurle will randomly award the class with added points to your overall class average (usually 0.2 points and twice a semester at the most) usually during days he does not expect many people to show up (day before spring break/thanksgiving, bad weather days). Try to grab old midterms (older than the previous semester), they will be your bread and butter for your exams. Matrices is not a grueling subject and easy to comprehend anyways. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Very good, clear lecturer with a healthy enthusiasm. He does not make students concentrate too much on formal proof and theory (as this class was for scientists and engineers), but gives enough focus on theory to make you understand and appreciate the mathematics behind what you are doing. This class is not rigid problem solving a la intro Calculus or Diff Eq; it has a greater emphasis on theory and computation, which is a welcome change. He drops many homeworks and a midterm. His midterms/final are straightforward, and if you dig hard enough, you'll find past exams that are exactly like the ones you will face. Very fair grader. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Dr. Schurle is a tad bit quirky but he's got the material down. While many people skip class, his lectures are actually very helpful and give different perspectives for each topic that the book gives. He gets the class involved with the examples and does a good job of capturing the thought process for each proof. He teaches with a lot of a passion and makes the material as interesting as it could be. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Easy, funny, intelligent, interested, class is not really necessary if you can use the book to work through the homeworks. Also, previous exams are posted on blackboard and have almost the exact same format, so they're excellent for practice. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
His energy and enthusiasm is remarkable for a math prof. He is the first some-what decent math prof I've had so far at UT. If you want to ace his class just find an old exam that he uses(go back 2 semesters) and you'll get it. His practice exams he posts are very different from what he actually uses as an exam so make sure you talk to people who have taken the course before. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
This class can be very easy if you can find previous years' exams (problems are usually VERY similar, some problems are exactly the same). He also posts practice exams which are pretty helpful. Attendance is not mandatory which is why I never attended because he pretty much teaches whatever is on the book. There are 3 midterms, hw worth 10% and a final. Final counts twice as much as the midterm but you can drop a test (so you can drop half the final). Overall, he is a very nice guy, pretty funny, and not one of those math professors who wants to fail you. Again, if you can find previous years exams, you will get an A. If not, just read the book, understand the concepts, and you should be fine. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
great professor, very interesting lectures, he drops one test grade and 6 homework grades, definitely take Dr. Schurle |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Great math teacher and down to earth guy. Spoke well and was able to articulate math concepts very clearly. Courses structure is incredible. Note outlines are posted online, and you fill them in with him during lecture. These notes and the book explain all of M340L's concepts really well. Three tests during the semester are pretty easy. Consists of around two short answers to theory questions, and the rest are calculations. May sound hard, but the previous years' exams which are posted online are pretty much identical except for different numbers. You also have a list of the possible short answer questions he would ask, so there's no reason not to get those right as well. Homework is due weekly but is not time consuming. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Dr. Schurle lectures with a set of notes under the doc cam that he works examples on as he lectures. He provides these notes online so you can print them out and work the examples with him in class. He always welcomes questions. His grading system definitely helps the students - he drops your five lowest homework grades as well as your lowest test score (out of the three midterms and the final, with the final counting twice.) He assigns approximately ten homework problems per lecture, making a total of 30 problems per week. Attendance is not mandatory, but the notes posted online do not have worked examples so attendance is recommended to receive those. |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Guy teaches well, however he teaches you mostly random stuff that does not really pertain to the class. He really doesnt grade the tests, I have had him for 2 semesters and I know for a fact that he doesnt. Your grade will solely depend on how well you do in the homework and believe me you will get alot of it, so basically do all the hw, do well on it, and you should come out with an A regardless of your tests. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
The aspects I like about the class are that he's pretty lenient with the homework. He'll put a deadline on assignments 1-15 or so so you can do them at your leisure. As far as for his tests, you'll probably only get to three of them, and he gives you an outline that you pretty much study and regurgitate verbatim for the test. The aspects I don't like, it's a really boring lecture and he teaches from the book. You might as well sleep during class and read the book at your leisure. You're going to get an outline for the test anyway. On the bright side, I hear he gives out a lot of A's! |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Dr. Guy is a very laid back teacher. His experience allows him to teach the class the way he wants, and he doesn't necessarily have to follow the book. Its a good class to take to relieve some stress. You'll get an A if you try hard enough. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
50% A's, 50% B'she doesnt really grade tests, i dont have prove of either him doing/not doing that. however homeworks are picked up and returned promptly, adding to the legend that 10% final grade comes from homework is actualy tilted more towards 100% or so. so either do the homework on your own (3 assignments/week which take about 2 hours to do all in all) or just copy from the solutions manuel (which still takes the same amount of time but you dont learn the stuff for the tests that he doesnt grade this way) |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Dr. Arledge is an amazing professor. She is very good at explaining the material, her exams are fair, and she is very helpful and cares about the progress of her students. She gives 2 exams and a final, all weighted equally at 30% as well as weekly quizzes which are worth 10%. The quizzes are not difficult, although the exams can be a little tricky. She assigns homework after every class, but it is never due, so you only need to do as much of the homework as you need to understand the material. I found that she did such a marvelous job at explaining things during lecture that I hardly attempted any of the homework problems and still did very well on the exams and quizzes. Definitely take any class you can from her. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
She teaches like a high school teacher -- slowly and meticulously so you know your stuff. Pretty easy material. Her lectures are based on the book just in notes form, so it's shorter. Homework she assigns helps and will most likely make it onto the tests. She does not put complex stuff on the homework or tests, which is a good thing for most people. She is enthusiastic and a nice person. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
This class was a little dry, but fairly easy.YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS EVERY DAY.There is really no way you will do well if you dont go to class and see what she is teaching.I got an A in this class from doing such and doing the homework assignments.She has 3 tests (including final) and 1 quiz per week.The quizes are very easy if you do the homework, and tests are fair.The final is just like the 2 previous tests if not easier. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Class is an easy introduction to matrices and linear algebra. The class consists of random quizzes, generally every other week, 2 tests, a final, and a bunch of homework. Prof. Arledge gives ok lecture, considering how simple the material is, and she does a good job explaining the content. Tests and quizzes are easy. |

Don't let your initial impression of him fool you. Yes, he comes across very rude at first (he's French), but once you get to know his personality, you'll see that he actually has the best of intentions. He follows the notes transparencies that are available to download and print from the book's web site, so it's easy to take little notes on the printouts and follow along. The grading is well balanced with two midterms, a final, homework, and some attendance quizzes (only 5%). A couple of the homework and quiz grades are dropped, and if you bomb one of the midterms, he has an alternate grading scheme that uses your best midterm and more heavily weights the final. All the graded work was returned very promptly and was graded leniently. He makes it very clear what you need to know for the tests, going so far as posting practice midterms and a practice final which are VERY similar to the real thing. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Very nice guy. Has a decent sense of humor at times. Drops a midterm. Uses the transparency templates for notes that you can print out online and fill out with him in class. Provides sample exams for each midterm and the final. Get 50 points on each homework and quiz automatically just for turning it in. |

Without a doubt the best math professor I've ever had. When our first homework assignment took too long, she apologized, cut the number of problems on every other assignment and stated she would drop an extra assignment to make up for the long assignment. She really does care about her students an was extremely accommodating and understanding. She teaches very well and goes over many examples, but to be honest class attendence was not really essential- I made a strong A in the class without really using my notes to study for the tests- just redo the homeworks and use the book/class notes to help clarify concepts. The tests were actually fairly easy, especially compared to the homeworks, but the class covers such a breath of material that things can get confusing at times. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
She taught the course amazingly. She explained everything very well and answered any questions the class had. She also dropped some of the HW load whenever we said it was too much work. Awesome lady that listens to her students and teaches you the material you need to know. Exams were not too hard either. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
She a great professor and friendly too. She was the best math professor I had at UT. The class had 2 tests and a final. She gives a big curve at the end. She explain the material very well. Tons of homework due every week. |

He's the best math professor I had so far at UT. He know the material, and explain it very well in terms student can understand. This class was an easy A. Class attendance is rarely required, I only went to class to turn in homework and take tests. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Dr Arbogast is is only math professor ive had at UT that I would take another course from. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
He explains things very well. He gives three tests and one can be dropped. You can get by without going to class as long as you keep up with your homework and reading. |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Professor Vaaler made it very clear what he wanted the students to know about linear algebra. You can easily get a high A with just attending class and listening to his lectures, because he gives you and goes over a "practice exam" that has the same kinds of questions on the test. Oh yeah, the tests are multiple choice. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
The best Math professor I ever had at UT. His lectures are good and thorough, but I stopped going because I got busy as the semester went on. The grading was 30% for each of the 2 midterms and 40% for the final. The midterms had 15 questions each and the final was 20 questions, all multiple choice. The only time it is absolutely necessary to go to class is ~3 classes before each midterm, because that's when he hands out a practice exam that is almost like the real exam, except with the numbers slightly altered. If he didn't cover it in class you can probably find him in his office - he's helped me out before one of the midterms there. Plus he lets you use calculators, which is even better so you don't have to do tedious calculations by hand, since he knows that nowadays everything is done by computer. Easy A. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Extremely Easy. You don't have to go to class at all expect the day before the tests. He gives you a practice test which is pretty much identical to the actual test. Furthermore, he let you use your calculator. The tests are multiple choice too, making it even easier. If you do the practice tests, you will get an A in the class. Easiest professor/class I have taken at UT by far |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
The class was easy if you actually did the homework. Mostovyi's test were very fair. This was his first semester teaching, so he had his faults. He's kind of quiet but he got louder as the year progressed. He also basically just rehashes all the info that is in the book and spends way too much time on proofs rather than examples, so most people didn't even bother going to class. Some of the homework problems he assigns seem pointless, but they were sometimes word for word on the exam. He only has 2 midterms with no drops, which doesn't give much space for failure. Definitely not a hard class, but expect to put some time into understanding the homework and the chapters covered in the book before the tests. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Quiet guy. The class is pretty easy though so I and many others didn't bother attending. There was one homework a week and most of the time it was easy. I'm sure if you attend lecture you're pretty much guaranteed to get an A, I only came to class to turn in homework and got an A- which I will absolutely take. |

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Easy. Easy. Easy. I think I can attribute most of my success in this class to two things...The textbook written by David Lay...great book. Does a good job of marrying the more mechanized, algorithmic operations(matrix operations, row reduction, LU factorization, Eigen "stuff" computations) within linear algebra...and some of the more abstract concepts (spaces, linear Independence, linearity, invertibility, diagonalization, and entertains some of the more "real world" applications...aside from that I basically camped out in my TA's office hours and listen to him touch on everything we had learned in class that day and then some..But her tests really were easy...flesh information...nothing to challenging...but that said Linear Algebra has become one of my favorite math topics...so many applications...take her if you can. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
She has a very thick Italian accent which makes it very hard to understand her, however she is very nice and helpful if you ever need help. The homework is quest/online based and the test come straight off the homework and the final exam questions come straight off the tests that were based straight off the homework. Take her if you just want the easy A, but if you're a computer science major and actually need to learn the material I might suggest that you take someone else. |

Seckin really knows her stuff and is pretty good at conveying the content. She's a very nice person as well and will curve the grades in the students' favor when possible. Since she teaches straight from the text, it's relatively easy to make it up if you miss class. It is worth going because she can answer questions and help explain things so they make even more sense. |
||

M 340L Matrices And Matrix Calculatns
Seckin is SUCH a sweet professor; she's available for help outside of class. I couldn't make any of her office hours and the TA picked horrible office hours, and she drove up to campus JUST to meet with me on a nearly weekly basis. She was kind and explained problems to me as well as helped me with my homework. Additionally, if a test average is really bad, she will adjust the average. She doesn't take attendance, however, she says that if you sign in on random check days and, at the end of the year, you're on the edge, she will bump you. She does not grade on the +/- scale UNLESS it helps you! Something that I liked was that if you for some reason had to miss class, she doesn't move super duper fast, so it was sort of feasible to read the textbook and understand what was going on. |

Take this class if only you are seriously interested in learning the subject. Reading the book definitely helps(it's very short and to the point). If you are willing to pay attention, class is also very helpful. There is not much homework at all. He will answer any question you ask. he knows the material and explains it well. he writes out everything he says more or less so it's easy to get decent notes. his homeworks aren't graded but there is a quiz every week based on them. his tests aren't too bad IF you study and he curves a decent amount. if you've taken M408C and/or 408D and did ok in them, then this isn't a very difficult class as is, but don't get lazy because that will kill your grade. |

The other reviews for Professor Gualdani seem harsh to me, after having taken her class. She was a good teacher. She was very helpful and really wanted the students to understand the material. Sometimes, during tests, she would even help you through a problem, unlike other teachers who can't answer that type of question during the test. As long you understood the material, which may take several trips to office hours, you can do very well on her tests. She gives examples of test questions before each test. I didn't do much outside studying, but did go to office hours many times. I made an A. |
