MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Professor Sheglov is the best instructor I have ever had from the MATH department. He is extremely fair on all his homeworks, and tests. He explains things very well and not only does he teach the new stuff, but if you have any questions about even algebra, he will re explain it until you understand. He has a great sense of humor. His grading on tests focuses on the new material. If you mess up on the algebra and get the wrong answer, he only takes a little. In my class, we ended up getting way ahead of the curriculum and finished the calculus book, and still had 6 weeks left in the semester. Since we had so much time, he re went over everything, we set our own test dates, and we took practice tests. He told us exactly what problems would be one the exam, and how to solve all of them. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Let me start out by saying the Math department at OU is horrid. This guy is the exception. There are no handouts in class and the professor doesn't even bring notes or his book to class. He proficiently teaches class everyday without notes or even a book, I'd say that's extremely impressive. On test days, he brings a book full of problems and writes some problems on the board. I thought it was entertaining. Homework is always straightforward. There are typically anywhere from 4-8 problems on the homework but this is Calc IV, the problems are hard and they require a lot of work. If you pay attention in class and write down all of the examples, you will do great in this class. It's really not your conventional math class. We come to class, work maybe one big example the entire class period and that's enough. He's so good at teaching, you don't really need any more than that. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Scheglov went over exactly what would be on the exams. The token amazing math teacher. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
He modifies the course plan in a way that he feels makes it easier on the students. He moves some of the harder material up and puts some easier material at the end. He also was willing to stop calc 4 and review calc 2 material for a week when most of the class did poorly on his first test. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Covers the material quickly, but he does it in a way that makes it very easy to understand (unlikely most of OU's other math profs). He goes over what will be on the tests before the tests and the problems are nearly identical. He gives practice tests and gives you the written answers the same day. Grading is pretty lenient and there is a chance for extra credit and he curves at the end. He is also hilarious without trying to be. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
He really knows his stuff. He loves math, and you can tell. At the same time he makes sure that you understand what he is saying. He told us beforehand the type of material on the tests, so that made the tests fairly easy and straightforward. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Somehow Scheglov made Calc IV as easy to understand as basic arithmetic. Also, he's attractive and funny and good-natured. I enjoyed going to class. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Knows what he's talking about, willing to help anyone who's struggling. Straight lecture, with going over homework every class also. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Dr. Forester is an excellent teacher. His lectures are always very easy to follow as he takes care to always clearly explain exactly what he is doing and why - something very important during a math class. This makes learning difficult concepts very easy. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Forester is one of the better math professors I had. He goes nice and slow in class and is very good with explaining things. He will readily help students and responds to emails pretty quickly (typically within 24 hours). Tests are not very hard if you are prepared. His old tests posted online are essential to studying for this class since he uses very similar problems on the new tests. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
He is a very good teacher. I took both calc III & calc IV with him. He is willing to help outside class. His English is very clear and he gives a lot of partial credit when grading. He always gives a review before each test. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Professor Bhand is a extremely intelligent teacher who shows this by preparing for the class without even bringing his personal notes because he knows exactly what he already wants to talk about. He gives pop quizzes weekly, but if you do your studying each week, they are extremely easy. His tests can be really difficult, but he gives plenty of partial credit. He uses the grading scale 100-86 A, 85-71 B, 70-56 C, so it helps you even more. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
He has 3 midterms and a final. The midterms are VERY fair and he gives the class hints and posts a review online. He assigns homework problems weekly that require some thought so don't expect easy homework assignments. Expect to be doing homework for 2 hours at the least. There is no attendance but attending class is important considering the course and subjects discussed. It was very easy to understand him in lectures despite the fact that he has a hard time drawing in 3-D (he will sometimes just give you handouts). He does curve and all you really have to do is get above the class average to get a B. Anyway, he is a great professor but not the easiest and he is very fair with his exams. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
GREAT PROF!! Take him. He is easy to understand (speech and concepts), and he's a great grader for the exams. He grades generously through all the exams, then gives a final grade curve based on natural breaks. I'll take him again if I have the chance. |

||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Clearly explains the material. He really cares about and is willing to help his students. I took him for Honors Calc for 3 semesters, and now I am working on a research project with him. Dry sense of humor. Tests are a bit difficult, but fair (in my opinion the best kind of test. |
||

Dan Guralnik

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Perhaps the best part about my Calculus IV class with Dr. Guralnik was that he offered to help the students regardless of the time that the student needed help. He holds separate question/answer sessions in a classroom every week for his students, which greatly help in understanding how to do the homework. Furthermore, he was willing to help the students even when they could not come to those sessions. Once, I remember I could not get the homework done to turn in, so I went to his office but twenty minutes before class started. He understood my problems with the homework and extended the due date. He is highly approachable and can solve virtually any problem that you ask him to. Homework is assigned once a week, and it is never picked up (though, instead of a quiz one week he gave us homework). The homework is strictly to help you gain a better understanding of the concepts necessary to have a solid grasp of Calculus IV. Lastly, Dr. Guralnik is a funny man. His lectures are all mixed in with some radical, blatant humor. I enjoyed the class because it was challenging. Yes. It was challenging. But it helped me to analyze math problems much better. I can only thank Dr. Guralnik for this. I recommend this class. |
||

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Very approachable and willing to answer questions via email and office hours. In taking a couple of Dr. Guralnik's classes, the biggest pros are that he knows the subjects very well. Also if you have difficulty understanding something he will continue to work with you until you understand. He is incredibly patient. To get the most out of class you must participate and prepare. With that in mind, his exercises will prepare you for the exams. In preparing for exams you truly must know what the concepts are and how to apply them. But most importantly attend regularly and study nightly! |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
This professor was extremely informative, and his lectures were great! I learned a tremendous amount about the subject from him. The homework and exams were graded fairly. Dr. Mccullough is always willing to go out of his way to make sure his students understand the material. On his course page he states, If my regular office hours do not fit your schedule, I urge you to arrange another time to meet with me. Success for my students is a very high priority with me, and helping my students learn mathematics is a pleasure, not an inconvenience. I can personally testify that he is very flexible and is willing to make time to help his students. He is the best math teacher I have had at OU. If you can take this teacher, I would highly recommend it |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Dr. Tao has been the best math professor I've had at OU to date. She really makes an effort for her students to understand the material. Homework wasn't for a grade, but required for doing well in the course. There were quizzes every week that covered recent material, but easy as long as you paid attention and did a couple of problems outside of class. Her tests are fair. You can do well in this course if you put your time into it - I bombed the first test and still came out with an A. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Professor Petrov is the best professor at OU. The class is interesting yet challenging but it is definitely worth it to attend class because: a) it is difficult to understand the material by just reading the book and b) Petrov makes it worth it to attend class. I have had him for Calc II, III, and IV and I have made an A in the first two. It was hard work but he gives an insane curve. Just go to class and do the work and you will be fine. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
She comes to class well-prepared to explain the material in an organized fashion, which is a lot more than can be said of my Calc 3 teacher. Her exams were not all that difficult to me -- as long as you do the assigned homework problems throughout the semester and feel comfortable with problems of those types, you should be good to go on tests. |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Dr. Barnard the best math teacher I have ever had. He does a great job explaining the material (which is really tough in calc 3). Make sure to go to class everyday because his lectures are extremely beneficial and much better than the book. We got homework every week consisting of about 8 problems each. The homework was worth 15% of the final grade (make sure to get a solutions manual, I have one you can get). He also gives two quizzes, one about two weeks before each test. They are worth 10% each, and then the two tests are worth 15% each and the final is worth 25%. The best way to study for his quizzes and tests are to do his old tests. They are on his website, it just takes some looking. Often the problems were exactly the same or very similar. |

Christina Durfee

Average grades given in the course: |

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Dr. Durfee was a new professor this fall, but she did pretty well considering. Her homeworks are extremely hard and long (20-30 long problems once a week), and it counts for 20% of the grade. Her tests are fair, not too easy, not too hard. As a teacher, she tends to talk to the board and is not very interactive, but is clear and thorough. I think she'll improve on this as she gains more experience as a teacher. So bottom line, she's not the worst nor the best math professor I've had at OU. She's definitely ok, if you survive all the homework. |

Margarete Landes

MATH 2443 Calculus And Analytic Geometry IV
Very knowledgeable and hard working. She teaches the course at a level more rigorous than most non-math/physics majors feel comfortable with (the engineers in my class are often lost/baffled). The material is extensive and properly presented. She's very anal retentive with her math notation and grades all homeworks very harshly (and herself!). I put the homework grading in the 'pros' because it has made me a significantly better mathematician; she requires you to submit all homeworks in pen, as a final draft, and to extensively enunciate your methods and motivations as you work the problems. This turns out to be very useful later in the semester when looking back at homework to study and finding a well annotated and easy to follow method. She's passionate about her teaching and is ALWAYS available and very helpful in office hours. She wants you to understand Calculus. |

He was very thorough in what he covered. Tried to pull in applicable, not overly complicated real-world examples when he could (really helped make the concepts more concrete for me). Best of all (and highly unusual for OU Math faculty), he was actually responsive to the students. He answered questions patiently and directly. He also never left the class behind while lecturing or working through a problem. Very well prepared and organized for class. |
