Sample Degree Plan Courses

The following is a list of courses based on sample degree plan. Other requirements may be necessary to complete this degree.

Program Requirements

A grade of C or better is required in each course.One course must be in a period before 1800. Transfer students must take at least five history courses (20 points) in this department. Students may take no more than three introductory courses (numbered below V57.0100). Certain courses in the Morse Academic Plan (MAP) may also count toward the history major. These are Conversations of the West and World Cultures, if they are taught by professors in the Department of History. Also, majoring in history exempts students from taking the Societies and Social Science component of MAP.

All courses must be taken and any degree course group requirements (if any) must be met.

Fields of History

The remaining eight courses are to be distributed among three fields of history—American, European, and non-Western (Latin American, Near Eastern, African, or Asian)— so that the student will complete at least two courses in each field.

To be eligible for the bachelor’s degree, students must complete 128 points with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
