MATH 1314 College Algebra
I loved Professor Cain. She is a very nice lady and a great teacher. She explained things very clearly in my opinion, and I am easily confused, especially when it comes to math! And if you don't understand something in class, she is more than willing to help you outside of class time. Whether it's a quick question before/after class, talking with you on the phone, or getting help during her office hours (she is always in her office when she says she will be, which is more than a lot of teachers do...). If you need a lot of help or can't come to her office hours, she will schedule a time to meet with you. She gives you her HOME phone # as well as office phone, and doesn't mind you calling her at home! Every time I have called her she has answered and has been very nice and helpful. She gives quizzes at random but the good part of them is that if you do your hwk, and make sure to get any questions about it answered in class, then you will ace them all b/c the quiz questions are all from the hwk -- number for number. Remember this when you are debating doing your hwk (because you aren't required to do your hwk - she doesn't check it off or anything like that)!!On another note, if you have any kind of personal problem and are wondering if you should talk to her (if it's affecting your schoolwork, obviously), don't hesitate. She is very understanding and will help in any way she can. She definitely gets 5 stars for approachability and accomodation. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She lives up to the hype!!!! She is the finest math teacher I have ever had. She meticulously explains all concepts and works problems that are representative of the homework. She gives 4 tests, a final and quizzes that make up a test grade. She drops the lowest test score and the lowest quiz score. I have always struggled in math and had to drop Coll. Alg. the semester before. I got a B in Prof. Cains class. She doesn't make it easy, she makes it understandable. She will work with you outside of class and she is so kind and pleasant. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Ms. Cain was a superb teacher. She was very patient and kind to her students. She always came early to class to help students who needed extra time and attention. She also stayed late to continue to answer questions when needed. She has long tests. Some students believe the tests were difficult. If you come prepared for the tests and do your homework regulary, then the tests are not difficult-just lengthy. She had many homework problems, but they are needed in order to get a firm grasp of the material. She brings calculators to class for the students to use in one cannot afford to purchase his/her own. She goes fast sometimes, but if you ask her a question, she will slow down. She is very generous to students, and she really cares that students understand the material. The first day of class, she gives you a take home quiz in algebra to make sure that you have mastered sufficient algebra to continue in her course. I found this very helpful to me since I had not taken algebra in 25 years. On her final exam, she included 1-2 exact questions from her old exams. She announced ahead of time that she was going to do this. There is a voluntary math study lab available to students who need extra help, and the author of her book also offers a study guide with the answers to math problems worked out step-by step. This course is very doable if you are willing to put forth the work needed to keep up the pace of the class. In my humble opinion, one cannot make an A in this class without regularly keeping up with the homework. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
This is the most comprehensive class I have ever had. Professor Cain's teaching ability and style is consistent with the progressive course material. One of her strength's are being able to collaborate with her students and be involved with their day-to-day schedule and put them at an ease and comfortable learning atmosphere. Besides, her homeworks are not taken up for a grade (That don't mean that it is going to be unecessary.), the 10 'pop' quizzes come straight from the homework questions. I would highly suggest tht you do your follow up with the assignment; if not, ask Prof. Cain for help on what to do. She is very good at understanding. However, you are on your own come the Final Test (plus the three more)Other than tha thave a great time learning! |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Wonderful, wonderful teacher!!! Her lecture style were organized and easy to follow. Alot of homework, but worth doing it. Her exam is pretty easy if you have done her homework and actually understand each section. If not, do what I did; I pretty much have her go over the previous section one hour before the actual class starts. Very approachable professor. If you don't take advantage of her office hours, then you are not going to have a very high grades in her class. It's that simple. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Excellent teacher. She is kind, patient, and helpful. Her tests are pretty busy, but you need to concentrate and study, of course. I would recommend her. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Amazing teacher!!! I've taken Coll Alg before and I dropped it because It was too hard.I was recommended Britt Cain for the following semester and she helped me understand everything. She has really good teaching methods and really cares about you passing the class. I highly recommend Britt Cain to everyone. She's the best teacher I've ever had |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra

||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Mrs. Cain is AWESOME she is willing to work with you. You must apply some effort though. If you have any questions she is available to answer questions when she is at home. I once had a question about Algebra homework and we did the problem over the phone. There are quizzes over homework problems so do your work. She will allow you to make it up if you miss. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She is a very sweet professor and is very thorough in her work. She will go through every question and make sure you understand before continuing. I recommend taking her anytime. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She is great! She has open office hours and will work with you. I got an A in this class and understood everything. She was great. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
I really enjoyed Cain. She made it so easy for me to understand the material after being out of a math class for 3-4 years. Although, it was a struggle. You really have to stay on top of the homework, and know the material in an out for the test. She tends to put some tricky questions on the tests that are all the "exceptions" or seemingly, of a particular concept. She has 5 exams including the final, and although she doesn't grade homework she does have 10 homework quizzes that she averages for a portion of your final grade. She does drop 2 of the homework quizzes. I had an 88.5 on the class and needed a 100 on the final to pull an A. She worked with me and was really understanding. I ended the class with an A. She's very understanding if you make an attempt to go to her office hours, or ask questions. She refuses to use blackboard for anything though and I had to call her at home to find out my final test grade in the class (it was the final factor between an A or B). Overall, her teaching style is awesome, and I liked her. But you will have to work, this isn't a blow off class. |

He is such a great teacher. I wish I could take him for all of my math classes. He is available to help you whenever he can be. I strongly recommend taking him for math. You won't regret it. You do have homework and quizzes so there is work involved, but if you put forth the effort it is worth it. He has quizzes once a week, 3 exams plus the final exam. Some people have posted he has an accent, but it's very little. I could understand him just fine all the time. He doesn't take attendance, but I wouldn't miss any classes because you will fall behind quickly. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Abdol is a very nice, professional and patient instructor. He will help any student personally during office hours or by e-mail. There are daily quizes consisting of 2-3 questions, 4 tests, including the final exam. If you correct any of the first three tests, you can get an additional 5 points back. Abdol doesn't review or grade homework. He teaches by the book. Overall, Abdol is a very pleasant, non-confrontational instructor, that is full of knowledge that the student has to tap into. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
The tests can be given in the testing center, so you can take as much or as little time to take them as you need or in class. He's very flexible about that and usually takes a class vote on where you'd like to take them. He doesn't look at or grade homework, but it helps to do it. He doesn't do or require you to do any of the problems that involve a graphing calculator because he feels that if it's not going to be on the test then you shouldn't have to do the homework on it. His quizzes are over the material covered in the previous class and are only 3 or 4 questions long. He doesn't do attendance, but it's helpful to attend if you want to do well on his tests, which are usually less than 20 problems long. He allows you to use the formula sheet for tests given in class. |

Huff is the best teacher I have had while at ACC. He is very approachable and concerned about his students really learning the material. If you have problems with Math and really want a teacher who cares about you and your grade than take his class! |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
As stated so many other times, Mike Huff is an excellent professor. Exceptionally bright, he is passionate about mathematics and his students getting it. Whether it's Basic Math or Cal III, you will not go wrong with Mike. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Excellent teacher, went over the material well.Used GRAPHING CALCULATORS, so if you're familiar with them, you'll do very well.4 tests, one which is a take home, and a comprehensive final.All homework problems are odds, so they can be checked to make sure you're doing everything right. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Wow! This is a great teacher and I would highly recommend taking any of his math classes especially if you struggle with this subject. I have a really hard time grasping certain concepts and I got a B in his class (which I am very pleased with). He is fair with turning in homework and tests if you need extensions! You also get to turn in corrections on tests and replace your lowest test score with up to half of your points back (very helpful). The final is NOT mandatory and can only help you if you need it to replace another low test score. (several chances to raise your grade) He makes time for his students in his office or in the learning lab. I would definitely take him again if I planned on taking more math.Also, he is just a nice guy. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Very informative teacher. He gives straight forward lectures and easy to follow notes. Also, he works in the learning lab, so he is always willing to help. He lets you correct each test, and the lowest test grade, you are able to make back half of the corrected points. Kinda confusing, but very helpful. Optional comprehensive final if you want to try and bring your grade up. Four tests, four homework grades.. Easy A with the right amount of commitment! |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Kyle explains everything very well and really knows his stuff. He has some interesting quirks and is really funny when he opens up. I enjoyed the class when I wasn't short on sleep :PThere are a lot of opportunities to improve your grade. Corrections for half the points lost can be made up on ONE low test grade and the final is optional and will replace another low test grade. The best advice he gave the class: Learn to READ the chapters to better understand what is going on. When I didn't, I found myself lost during his lectures. Personally, I prefer female math teachers, but I think he's one of the better male teachers to take. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Mr. Kyle is an excellent math teacher. I took him for Trig and plan to take him for all the others that he teaches. He really breaks down and explains the concepts without getting into boring derivations that lose the students. He's very consistantly in a good mood and professional and he doesn't waste your time. Plus, he writes everything you need for your notes on the board. Best math teacher I've ever had. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
he is a great teacher as far as understanding the material, and willing to help. he gives an exact review of every question that will be on the test. also works in the learning lab and available for tutoring. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She knows her material. She is a very nice lady that can be reached during her office hours anytime. The material was explained thouroughly, even though I think we spent a little too much time on the stuff you should already know and not quite enough on the new. I had no problems in this class and I think most of the students would agree---as long as you went to class. The test are just like the review she hands out. The amount of homework is fair. It seems like we were behind most of the other math classes and did quite a few sections the last 2 weeks, but she gave you what you should and and changed homework accordingly. Overall, a good teacher |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Excellent professor. Knows her stuff very well, good explanations, enjoys teaching. Goes out of her way to be helpful, does not do departmental tests. You're required to memorize things instead of taking a graphing calculator into exams (for Calc I, anyway), although this is not as difficult as it sounds, since she gives plenty of in-class drill and review for the tough-to-memorize stuff. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
she is very knowledgeable and if you attend class and pay attention, there is no way you cannot pass it. i am german and still really did not have a problem understanding her english...it should be easy then for english speaking folks to understand her. i took intermediary algebra with a different teacher this semester, and turns out Jiang taught me very well! have no trouble keeping up my a. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra

MATH 1314 College Algebra

Dr. K knows his stuff! His class is a little fast paced but will always make sure he answers every question. If you don't understand something, ask. He wants you to understand. He also has a great sense of humor and uses it in class! That is rare in a math class and makes it a little more enjoyable. His tests are fair, the aren't EASY, but he doesn't put any surprises on them either. As long as you are doing your homework and understand what he goes over in class, you're fine. He had a total of 4 tests, the final being over only the last two chapters we did in the class. He did not to a comprehensive final - THANK GOODNESS!!! There were no quizes and all homework needed to be turned in the day of the tests. I did have to get a tutor to help me, but most of that was do to what was being covered -- COLLEGE ALGEBRA! I'm NOT a math person but was able to get a B in his class. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
He is a great teacher. I took MATH 1342 with him. His tests were fair. Even I didn't like that course, but he made it easier for me to learn. If you do all your homeworks, it'll be a piece of cake to get an A. We had a review for each test, and 24 extra credit quizes( 1 point per one.) I highgly recommend him. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Professor Kamalvand is a very good math teacher. He is able to lighten the mood with a joke here and there, while still being able to clearly teach the class the concepts needed for his tests. He does go by the book, which wasn't too hard to follow, since most of the concepts he goes over per section, are boxed in the book. His handwriting is legible and easy to read (at least for a math professor). Make sure to ask questions on the homework, usually somebody else will have the same or a similar question, but won't ask. Plus he likes making sure you know the material. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Dr Kamalvand is the BEST Math teacher one could ask for! He has a sense of humor and is very knowledgeable. The most important part of all is that he is fair, you can tell when a professor has experience teaching the topic, because he is not trying to punish you for taking his class, rather he tries to pass along the knowledge so that you can use it in successive classes. I took him for College Algebra and I rushed to sign up for his Pre-Calculus class. If you do the homework (easy 20 percent of the grade) and study, you are guaranteed a 4.0 in his class. Just do the reviews that he gives out a couple of days before the exam and if you can do all the questions without problems, you will breeze through the exam. (The reviews are actually harder than the actual exam!) Anyway if he was teaching Calculus I or II, I would sign up for his classes. |

Homework will help you get through your exams and you also get credit for doing it. His exams are fairly off your homework or handouts he gives you. MATH 1314 College Algebra
He is the best teacher I've ever had. I would recommend him to anyone. For college mathmatics, you will do well. You get a moderate amount of homework that he gives you plenty of time to complete since you have the homework list for the entire semester ahead of time. Squeeze as much as you can on the notecard for the exams and try to get some repetition and understanding of the problems and you can make an easy A. I made a high B putting about 30 percent effort in this class. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Andrea is one of the best math teachers, if not THE best I've ever had. She's very thorough and explains the material very well. She gives you an example of all the types of homework problems so you know what to do when you're at home. She's always available when you need her and she even offers up extra times if your schedule doesn't meet her office hours. She really cares about the subject and her students. The homework was a fair amount, and as long as you study for the test (work the review she gives out) then you'll be fine. She's not an EASY teacher, she's a FAIR teacher, so if you actually want to learn something, take from Andrea! |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Ms. Blum is a great professor and I would definitely take her again! She's friendly, patient and definitely knows her material. Sometimes she goes a lil too fast but all you have to do is let her know and she'll gladly slow it down. We only had 4 tests and an optional final. Homework is graded, and therefore expected to be done and turned in. On the flip side, she only grades 10 random problems within the assignment. On the tests, she will usually give the class a curve anywhere from 2-5 points. Anyhow, I just think she's a wonderful teacher. You will definitely have no regrets by choosing to take this professor. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Very kind, will go out of her way to assist you, not a very boring class which you may expect from a Math professor. Grading systems has 4 tests, with an optional final to substitute your lowest grade. Overall, I would recommend her for calculus. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Andrea Blum is a good professor who explains all problems fully and if you still don't get it will explain it another way until you understand. One bonus is that she curves the tests for her College Algebra students (but don't take any higher math from her and expect the same treatment). I highly recommend Ms. Blum, she's awesome. |

This professor knows his subject and can flat out teach it. I won't lie to you; this class (MATH 1314) was a great deal of work. After it, I do feel more than prepared for the next math course. If you too are going to have to take more math courses after this one, Professor McGarry is the one to take. He gives (mostly) daily quizzes to keep you on track with the material. There is optional homework for extra credit, which I highly recommend doing. His tests come straight from the quizzes, so if you know that material, you'll do fine on the tests. During the semester, I emailed him a few times and always received a response back within two hours. He is very helpful during office hours as well. Don't be scared by some of the other reviews. McGarry is a great professor and I would take him again for any class. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
I dont know about other people but when i took my class with him he turned out a pretty good profesor. He explains very well, not the kind that thinks you're stupid if you ask them a question. I found his test covering reasonably everything he lectured in class. The only hassle is that i had to do endless math homeworks for him. He insists that it's the way you learn, by practicing, which is very true, but it's just incredible the amount of work you had to do. In overall i felt that the course fulfilled my expetations and a little more for college algebra, and mr. mcgarry, beside being a nice guy is also a good teacher. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Professor McGarry is the smartest math mind I have ever met. He has a genuine passion for the subject, and if you pay attention you can capture the information he is trying to convey. He is more than happy to assist his students during his office hours and practically gives you the tests in advance. If you do the extra credit homework, ask questions on what you do not understand and come to class (every time) you will be in good shape. He is definitely willing to sit down and take the time to help you understand if you are.Note: if you are simply looking to blow through the credit and do not care much to learn the information, make it easy on yourself and select a different professor. |

Mr.Karl is an AWESOME teacher! He explains things VERY well and goes over homework problems during every class period for about 20-30 minutes. In his class you have a decent amount of assigned homework, but you only have to turn in specific problems every other week. So it's not required to do it but gives you good practice and also helps yourself understand the assignment better. Mr.Karl is very passionate about math and will do anything to help you succeed and he is also very understanding. I was late to take a re-test but he waited for me w/o being mad. He knows students are people too and not just robots. A very intellegent and mindful professor. For someone to complain about her is retarded! She breaks down the material barney style. I love that there is little homework. It is up to you to do extra hmwk. I think that for someone to complain about that is gay. For real life applications give me a break go join a tree hugging colony. School is here to challange you, and weed out people who want to deal with it. Your real life application comes when you get your first job. I highly recomend Mrs. Hord. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Ms. Hord is awesome. Most tests were taken in the testing center which allows you to test at your own pace. She gives a lot of take home quizzes which are just problems out of your homeowrk assignments. There are usually 3-4 problems on each quiz. She also gives out take-home extra credit assignments. I found these to be difficult but she will go over the problem in class if you ask her to. There were 5 tests total. The final test is just over the most recently taught information. And she is just so nice. I recommend her highly to anyone taking this course. |

Ms. Lochbaum was a good teacher and as long as you are willing to do your part she will do hers. She is willing to help you any way you can you just have to show her that you're trying. |

He tries hard to explain and is willing to help you out. Do the homework everytime; if you don't, you might not remember the problems he worked in class (I didn't when I didn't do my homework). Also, he gives 10 extra credit points for each test if you turn in all the homework before the test. However, he does assign a lot of homework, but I think it is because practice makes perfect! |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Prof Mota was a great instructor who is really interested in the success of his students. He will take the time to answer questions inside and outside of class, and his lectures are easy to understand and taught in a comprehensive manor. I had not taken Algebra in over a decade and could easily follow his steps and lectures. He gives notice every time he has a quiz or test and offers reviews outside of class as well. |

She explains things well and gives plenty of examples. Tests are over the exact things she says they will be. Homework is due at the beginning of every week, and is not overwhelming at all. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She's a nice person. Grading system allows you to miss a few homework turn-ins. Lemme explain. HW is due every Monday, no late work accepted period. It counts towards your participation grade. Once you get over something like 120 participation points the rest can count towards a test grade. I ended up getting 120 points (an a in participation) and an extra 20 which I could add to a test grade. |

Great teacher. His lectures are interesting and well planned. Very good at explaining things. There is a lot of homework to do and it is up to you to do it because it only counts as extra credit at the end of the course. I kept up with the homework and found the tests challenging but not as hard as the harder homework problems. Quizzes were usually on Wednesdays and at the end of the lecture and were usually only two problems. I looked forward to going to class. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
David Woods is an awesome teacher. I took college algebra with him, and I am typically horrible at math, mostly because I've always had bad teachers. However, I got an A in his class! He explains things really clearly and relates math to the real world so that it is easier to conceptualize. His test can be difficult, but he really gets you prepared for them. He really seems to enjoy teaching math and is also very approachable if you have a problem. I definitely reccomend this teacher if you want to do well! |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
Oh Bob... he really tries! His goal is to get the students to UNDERSTAND statistics and not just punch numbers. So if you already have an interest in stat, take him! He is one of the most approachable and caring professors I've ever known. He really loves it when the class gets involved and asks questions. LOVES IT! Do not be afraid to ask questions! He will go over the entire hw assignment if you want him to, as well as the tests. He gave 5 tests, reasonably well spaced. Is willing to tweak the sched. for tests if the class is a little behind. Tests are taken in the Testing Center and have no time limit. You can also take in an entire sheet of paper full of notes for the test. And if there is an unfair or misleading question on the test he will curve the grades. But do not expect an easy A and learn the vocab. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
He really tries soooo hard to get you a decent grade, but you have to meet him halfway. I took him last semester for college math and he did a great job on me. I am one of those who cries at math...one day before a test he actually met me at the school for a study session with just him and 2 students. He is one of the rare ones who actually cares that you get it. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
She was the best professor I've had at ACC. I took college algebra with her and precal a semester later. She has a passion for math, and will do anything to help her students succeed. She's brilliant, but she remains patient and reasonable with all of us half of her IQ. Sometimes if you catch her in the learning lab, she'll notice that you're tired of math--so she'll distract you with real world examples and she'll even get to know you on a personal level. She now knows what math teachers I had in school and remembers my grades off the top of her head, because we aren't just strangers to her. I would recommend her to anyone, and sure, I love math, but even if you hate it you can do well in her class. |
||

MATH 1314 College Algebra
This professor really has a passion for math, and it shows. Sometimes she moves too fast during lectures, but she will always slow down and explain things if you actually ask. Quizzes are just homework questions she lets you copy directly from your homework. Even if you get behind on the homework, she prepares reviews for each test that go over everything you need to know in order to get an A. |

MATH 1314 College Algebra
He really puts your money's worth. He teaches clearly by giving lots of examples. If you don't get something he will make up a problems until you get it. He's funny and an outgoing guy, so the class doesn't feel heavy and like it goes by slow. His test are easy! He gives out a review which if you do it and understand it, you will make an A on the test. He omits two questions. So you can either do the whole test and get extra credit or you can leave out two problems that you didn't get or don't understand. I highly recommend him. He's not just an easy A. Some teachers are easy A's but you usually don't learn much but a thing or two, Professor Thomason is really professional and will teach you a whole lot. If it wasn't because he gets filled up fast I would definitely take him again! |

Professor Molina is THE MAN. I had the distance learning course (12 wks). There were 4 exams taken in the testing center and an optional final to replace your lowest test grade. If you're going to take the distance course I suggest going to his office hours 1-2 times per week. He is extremely helpful, will answer any questions you have, and is just an all around nice guy. |

I think if you follow what he want you to do, you don't have any problem to get A.Some of the students didn't do homework well,so they dropped or didnt' take a test well. He is really patient. MATH 1314 College Algebra
I took Business Calculus I with Mary. I see where she has gotten a lot of negative comments, but I had a good experience in this class. Her expectation are high and the material is not easy. Here's what you can expect.1) She is very enthusiastic and energetic. She seems to enjoy the subject.2) Attendance is required. You will miss out on points if you don't come to class.3) She expects participation. If you want to just sit in the back and sleep, this isn't the teacher for you.4) She does a bunch of group activities to encourage students to help each understand the material. I think this is good. It helps develop a support base outside of class. Some of us ended up studying together outside of class.5) You have to do the homework. It is part of the grade and if you don't practice, you'll bomb on the tests. The beginning of each class is spent with students writing any problems they are struggling with on the board. You can go up and solve one for extra points or she will solve them if there are no volunteers. 6) She does a pretty good job of answering questions. A word of warning though, this class assumes you have mastered the major stuff from college algebra. You will get thrown right into calculus and if you don't know the underlying algebra, you are not going to be successful and that's not the calculus prof's fault.7) She is available for office hours and will gladly help you. She doesn't hand-hold though. You have to be willing to put in the effort. This is college after all.8) She is more than fair in her grading of homework and tests. Very generous with partial credit. Make an effort and you will be rewarded even if you don't get the right answer. She does not grade on a curve! |
