Pros

Nice person.

Cons

Teaches theory / proofs, even when the course is blatantly applied. For example our 50 minute mid-term in "Applied" linear algebra will have four parts. Of the four parts, one part is write down the definitions of 5-6 proofs, and another is write a proof. He said the "write a proof" exercise should take about 40 minutes. That's not too applied in my opinion.nnHomework is the same way. Possibly one or two problems to actually solve something, maybe, and the other 4-7 problems will be proofs.nnHe's probably okay for pure math types, of which he is, but I suspect he's useless outside of writing proofs.nnI agree with the other review. We've been doing homework for 7 weeks and we just now (because of the mid-term) got a few back.

Pros

Only one midterm exam throughout the semester and then a final. On the first midterm he let us correct one problem so that we would recieve more points. Homework is graded on whether or not you turned in all of the assignments. If a homework problem is wrong then he lets you re-do it until it is right.

Cons

Tong Sun teaches completely out of the book, which depending on your style of learning can be a good or bad thing. For me, however, I need the book as a second source so that if i do not understand the lecture then i have something else to refer to. He basically gives homework for every class period (three times a week). However, he does not get it back to you in a timely fashon, so you do not have homework to study when an exam does take place. He can be confusing because he does not give adaquate examples. He basically teaches the proofs and theorms directly out of the book, but does not give examples as to how to apply them to something.
