Pros

McCord is an interesting lecturer.. He has 4 exams and iclicker quizzes (how he takes attendance), learning modules, quest homework, etc for methods of acquiring your final grade. He also weighs them in different ways at the end of the semester to help you get the highest possible grade and offers EASY extra credit opportunities.

Cons

Difficult to keep up with him, I think personally. He does keep you entertained but the lectures can be totally confusing if you don't do the reading from the textbook beforehand and even the textbook doesn't exactly make it easy to understand. I would recommend going to Office Hours asap if you find yourself getting lost. Definitely don't take his class if you're rusty in chem and it's not your strongest point.

Pros

Dr. McCord is an amazing teacher. Before I first took his class, sixteen people warned me against him, claiming he was the hardest professor, however, they were both right and wrong. McCord is only hard if you aren't willing to go to class and study a little bit outside of class. He knows the material extremely well, so he will naturally expect you to keep up and learn the material as well. He made Thermodynamics extremely easy to understand, and the only time I ever had trouble on one of his tests was when I was ill and missed two weeks of lecture. Otherwise, he's one of the best first professors to take as long as you remember to review the material each week either in his TA sessions, office hours or alone, apply the concepts when doing the homework, spend some extra time to work problems from the book and attend lecture. He's a really funny and engaging man and he'll make you laugh at least three times during the semester. He gives valuable advise, so you should listen carefully. Homework is important, so do it on your own. It will be a reflection of how you do on the tests. Studying with a group is recommended, but don't shirk your personal study time.

Cons

You can't cram before a test unless you have a strong background in chemistry. His questions WILL throw you off if you do not spend an adequate amount of time to prepare. You can't miss more than a few days of class because of daily i-Clicker quizzes, and you definitely cannot miss any of his Tuesday exams. Nothing else can be considered a con.
