Pedersen is an extremely capable lecturer. He explains concepts in detail to the extent that he will test you on it, and it is consequently always very clear what to spend time studying for. Problem sets, as others have said, are very relevant and very worthwhile to do-- in fact, I doubt it is possible to do well in Pedersen's classes without doing them. Exams are very fair. Trick questions are exceedingly rare, and even the synthesis problems are very doable with some time. That being said, test curves are still generous due to people not studying hard enough. Do the problem sets, keep track of problems worth redoing before exams, and you should do fine.

He is the reason i got an A in 3B, GO TO CLASS and if take the time to do the problem sets (and understand them) you will be fine. Its a tough class but Pedersen is one of my favorite professors at Cal and the best ochem prof we have. Awesome lecturer if you are paying attentio.n
