Jose Flores is an engaging lecturer with many interests that pertain to literature. He showed me just how diverse the study of literature is. He would say in class, I love literature. He really wants to help those who even show an inkling of interest, but he knows if you're b.s.ing around with him--hence why he can go off-topic, because it's disrespectful given what he can actually teach you if you let him. His assignments put pressure on you write under pressure and time constraints, so this means you should be prepared with your readings and and have an outline in your head. He'll give you a few options to pick from for in class essays, which are normally from pretty cool reading assignments. I'm a so-called anglo male, and I found his interests in the Chicano movement fascinating. After taking a regional studies class at UT, looking back, I can say that studying under Professor Flores enlightened my perspective in a lot of ways pertaining to culture.I squeeked out an A-, and have since transferred to UT--as an English major.
